Do non-digital police scanners still work? - police digital radio decrypter
If not, why? I thought that only applies to cable TV. Does this mean that digital radio is radio waves, and the police also different (because calling the police, of course not), the regular radio? Why? I want to buy a police scanner. I live in Chicago. If I were a normal for $ 200 less than the new digital, I get a signal, or something that has already been scanned? Basically, you need to buy a digital scanner?

You're right, the switch only to broadcast television frequencies is required. Police and fire brigade in an analog system in general, the VHF, UHF or 800 MHz band. Based on the site below Cook County seems to most analog radio systems to be used. So no, do not buy it at this time to a digital scanner in order to continue receiving the local police and fire departments. Maybe you want to update their plans in the area on your system. Most agencies have a plan for change for some time in the future, if the digital service. If they do this, you will need a scanner to receive them. Good luck.
